Experiences

As the Surveillance System Administrator, I am one of two administrators responsible for the daily operations, system maintenance, network integrity, and every other aspect of the large scale surveillance system.  The system currently utilizes 75 network switches, 18 iron and 17 virtual servers, 9 network storage devices, and well over 800 cameras.  Currently working $10M contract requirements to enhance the system by nearly doubling the equipment footprint due to expansion requirements within the organization.  This complex system was put in place to protect all personnel within the Basic Military Training campus and maintains two years of historical video coverage.  Daily efforts include operational checks of all cameras, storage and servers for malfunctions, fixing or replacing malfunctioning cameras, replacing failed hard drives, updating software and operating systems, maintaining servers and SQL servers in optimum operating condition, checking and maintaining network switches configurations, and tending to customer requests for footage.  Direct interface to equipment and service vendors facilitating upgrades, replacements, and testing of new products.

As a US Air Force Civilian Information Technology Specialist, Program Manager, and Software Developer, I managed daily operations, lead short and long-term application development, developed applications to support the Basic Military Training School, supported 1000+ users within Basic Military Training, and conducted certification and accreditation activities. My workload consisted of handling day to day operations of a moderate size software application and database, orchestrating contract developers, managing maintenance and operation of system servers, developing ad-hoc queries to support leadership, law enforcement and legal requests, identifying problems with the application and correcting the problem or directing the modifications to rectify the issues, analyzing user requests and developing requirements for new applications, developing applications using HTML, CSS, ColdFusion, and MS SQL, advising senior leaders on new and changing technology, and completing certification and accreditation activities for an information system. Additionally, I managed zero-clients for the US Air Force Sexual Assault survey.

As an Information Technology Specialist, I supported over 50 people in four worldwide offices of one division of a Defense contractor. Our division performed flight training programs mainly for international students, but also ran a full service fixed base operation at a municipal airport. Two of our locations are located in the client country requiring international travel periodically to support their operations. My duties included handling any software or hardware issue, researching, planning, acquiring and installing software and hardware, maintaining hardware and software inventories, and interfacing with manufacturers for warranty support. I routinely spent time training my users on Microsoft Office and Windows features. Occasionally, I created Adobe Acrobat forms for corporate and employee use, developed MS Excel based solutions using Visual Basic for Applications, and developed web based interactive applications using PHP MySQL, HTML, and CSS. When situations dictated, I installed network cables and connectors, installed network hardware, and handled VoIP phone setup.

As Squadron Computer Officer, I was tasked with supporting various units during my time in the Air Force with computer issues. Early on, I setup token-ring networks, trained users, deployed computers, maintained and upgraded computers, and built an MS Access 1.0 database supporting most of the offices in the unit. Later, I researched, acquired, setup, and installed 25 computers along with running all the network cable for them. I also built a MS Word document generation application using Visual Basic for Applications that replaced hand written training documents. At two units, I supervised the IT person to ensure that the needs of the unit were being handled correctly and efficiently. At my last assignment, I undertook complete responsibility for all computer related issues for the unit. This meant dealing with all users computer issues, maintaining hardware and software, installing and fixing printers, training users on applications features, troubleshooting network issues, and interfacing with base level IT technicians. At one point, I had over $750K of equipment on my hardware inventory during a $250K upgrade of computers, monitors, displays, and printers. I planned, managed and completed this six month upgrade replacing every computer in the unit with new Vista/7 capable equipment, giving most users dual monitors, putting large format displays in every office for displaying time-sensitive information, and consolidating printer models to eliminate wasteful toner purchases. I was responsible for approximately 65 permanent employees and an ever changing amount of transient employees from other units, but usually no less than 60. Prior to an inspection, I built an interactive training aid to help our aircrew enhance their knowledge of the complex aircraft systems, Air Force regulatory instructions and local environment procedures. I revamped a antiquated set of intranet pages to a consistent, updated, and useful presence delivering more information quicker and simpler than before. I planned, designed, programmed, tested and debugged a program to deliver the current flight operations status to users throughout the building and base using Visual Basic, HTML and CSS. Other duties included being the unit Information Assurance and Information Systems Security Officer, unit Content Manager for the Air Force Portal website, Software and Hardware Inventory Manager, and managing transient users access.

As an Applications Programmer, I created software for an insurance adjudication company to perform various insurance tasks. These included claims information data entry, claims payment, and insurance sales proposals. Primarily I worked on desktops but also mini-computers.

As a Systems Operator, I ran all swing shift operations for an insurance adjudication company. Tasks included backups and restorations, check printing, report printing, and data migration.
